People heal, in part, when they are ready to heal.

Readiness is its own bold threshold. It cannot be forced or manufactured.

Sometimes, people hold tight to what hurt them because it has become woven into how they know themselves.

Or they simply don’t realize healing is possible.

Other times, they believe they don’t deserve any salve. The wound has become familiar, and familiarity feels safer than the unknown.

When a wound becomes identity, letting go of it can feel like losing a part of oneself.

People replay the hurt to try to make sense of it, yet all it does is intensify the ache.

Some hurts have no logic. No amount of re‑examining will make them coherent.

Nursing one’s pain can feel like protection, but it protects nothing.

We tell ourselves we will never again be hurt like that…as if replaying the strain will harden us or scrape away our vulnerabilities.

Replaying the pain serves only to keep us where we are.

To heal, we must be ready to do so, with or without fully understanding another’s motives.

And sometimes, it becomes a relief to not understand.

It reminds us that we are wired differently, and we would not have made the choices that harmed us.

We wonder, “How do such people not apologize? It’s obvious what happened.”

Yet the luxury of apology often never arrives.

Moving forward sometimes requires bringing our pain to closure on our own, or with a therapist we trust, without the luxury of understanding or apology.

When we do this, we choose our better selves, and the pain’s stranglehold begins to loosen.

Only then do we step across the threshold and feel the first warmth of healing inside.
