My fingers are moving faster than my keyboard can register.

There’s a delay between what I type and what appears on the screen. It’s a small thing, but it mirrors the truth I’ve been living. Even my tools can’t keep up with the velocity of what I live.

That’s the thing about being the one who always holds everything together: you don’t notice the strain until you’re already carrying more than you can sustain.

This is the point caretaking stops being identity and starts becoming captivity.

There’s a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from being the stabilizer.

It’s not the tiredness of a long day. It’s the erosion that happens when you’re the one who keeps the boat upright while everyone else rocks it, whether they mean to do so or not.

You inherit the role long before you understand the cost. By the time you finally feel the weight of it, you’ve been carrying it for years.

Your body usually tells the truth first.

Not in spectacular ways, but in ordinary ones: tension that never fully leaves, sleep that doesn’t restore, fatigue that weighs you down and refuses to lift.

Your body usually collapses long before your mind gives you permission to stop.

Caretaking becomes what you do, who you are.

Responsibility becomes muscle memory and something others take for granted without realizing it.

Physical collapse becomes something you postpone until the system around you gives you permission. It never does. Eventually, your body insists.

Collapse is often noiseless.

It is the moment you stop compensating, stop smoothing the edges, and stop pretending you’re “fine.”

And when you’re the stabilizer, collapse feels like failure, even when it’s the most human thing you’ve done all year.

Tonight, the keyboard is lagging.

For once, I don’t have to outrun it.
